Red Oak is the most abundant hardwood species in American forests. It has been used for centuries in railroad crossties, fence posts and mining timbers. For this reason, it has been a significant contributor to the foundation of the United States. The renowned pinkish color of Red Oak's heartwood, from which it received its name, makes for a highly recognizable and beautiful hardwood floor. The sapwood of Red Oak is a cream color that sometimes will include a brownish hue.
